Article sent to Derbyshire Times relating to 'A celebration of stitch' event
Article sent to DT for Thursday's edition.

On Saturday, the national event of 'A Celebration of Stitch' was promoted by a display on the market by the Chesterfield Branch of the Embroiderers' Guild. Three stalls were decorated with splendid examples of members' work over the last year. The opportunity to get hands on was enjoyed by shoppers and passers by, who were drawn by the members who sat and were creating additional works of art live for all to see. Children as well as adults were willing to have a go. On display were two group projects, both prize winners in national competitions. The 'Make Do and Mend' hanging by the adult embroiderers which displayed the thirty individual pieces all joined together for a dramatic effect, and the 'Good Hair Day, piece of collective stitching by the Young Embroiderers' of Chesterfield. Anyone who missed the display can see the pictures on our blog at http://chesterfieldembroiderersguild.blogspot.co.uk/.
The adult group meets once a month on the first Thursday of each month except August at 7.00pm for coffee and biscuits and a natter for a prompt 7.30 pm start for speaker or workshop. We meet at The Saints Parish Rooms, St Mary's Gate Chesterfield S41 7TJ. We have a mixed bag of meetings with speakers, tutor-led and member-led workshops. Visitors and new members always welcome. The programme for the next year is on the blog as well as how to join in.
Our Young Embroiderers are being re-launched with a Christmas gift themed session on Saturday 30th November. More details will be on the website later. There will be four sessions in the first year on Saturdays at a central location in Chesterfield from 10am - 3pm. See website for details. Junior embroiderers are welcome to join as well as any wishing to get involved with their creative side.
We would like to say a great big thank you to all the willing people who helped us out, from the wonderful Andy and his boys who carried boxes - to the young man on the neighbouring stall who was thankfully taller than us. It was much appreciated. Thank you to all and look out for us at next year's 'celebration of Stitch Day.
thanks

4th July with Diane Grant
Thursday 4th July Members enjoyed an inspiring talk by Diane Grant entitled ' My Canvas Work Journey.
Diane is well know in the UK and USA publishing 2 excellent books which entice embroiderers to have a go.
We heard how she spent 20 years developing American canvas work to a new level, stimulating all to enjoy her passion.
There were lots of wonderful American threads to touch and admire as well as pieces of work. A thoroughly enjoyable evening.
2 websites that have the threads that Diane uses.
Willow fabrics also have magic canvas.
Look out for our stand on Chesterfield Market on the 3rd of August for what will become the annual 'National Needlework Day.'
Get an insight into what you can do with textiles and threads, and what we have been up to this year.
